One of the most popular international
resorts on the Spanish coast, Calella welcomes you with a sparkling
array of holiday attractions. The golden sands of the wide beach
stretch out in front of the town and inland the rolling pine
covered hills contrast with the deep blue sea.
Only a few years ago Calella was a small Catalan fishing village,
centred around the tiny old church. It is still there, and so
is much of the town's original character, living happily side
by side with the bustling personality of a modern resort.
Tree-shaded avenues and open-air bars line the beach. Shops
are around every corner with a tempting assortment of bargains.
In the evening, the town comes even more to life with its bars,
restaurants and discotheques.
Calella is also a good centre for excursions. You can easily
get around by using the scenic coastal railway which runs from
Gerona to Barcelona or cruise by boat between the coastal resorts
and see the unspoilt beauty of the Costa Brava.
Only a mile away, yet in contrast to Calella is picturesque
Pineda, with its main square and colourful gardens. Life is
on a quieter note here for when the mood takes you.
